Senior Software Engineer

C# / Web but language and database agnostic.

We are looking for a senior software developer with a real-world-engineering mentality. Someone whose reward mechanism is delivering the optimal experience to real users, customers, our internal and external teams. You will “get out of the building” to really understand the pain that our software is relieving. You will roll your sleeves up and get your hands dirty to feel the problems first hand.

We are close to continuous delivery so you need to be someone who is familiar and comfortable with modern software practices.

A pragmatic engineer delivering “just enough”. Just enough to iterate and improve the current experiences. Just enough to experiment and learn. Just enough architecture. Just enough automation.

Opportunistic; using third party libraries, frameworks and services where there is no need to reinvent the wheel. We have a small offshore development company in Vietnam which can be managed to great effect.

You will be joining a small but focused start-up style team that has been formed within an established group. A team of problem solvers whose hats blend and cross over. We iterate rapidly and can move fast. Thus, the role also encompasses a small part analysis, a small part architecture and a small part UX as we are too small to have those dedicated roles.

About us

Every marketing team in every organisation faces a dilemma. They can produce great on-brand well written publicity materials. However, scaling this service to the diverse and distributed needs across the organisation is not possible. They need publicity to be personalised, localised and on-demand. Thus the organisation outside of central marketing resort to DIY and static materials or simply don’t bother. A far cry from central marketing’s needs of on-brand, well-written, professional, approved and lots of it.

We solve this dilemma for the charity sector, and we call the solution “brand at street level”.

Nowhere is brand at street level more relevant than in the charity sector. Their values, passion, stories, ethos and unique personality forms the brand identity that drives their movement. Yet they rely on a diversity of staff, volunteers, supporters and the general public to promote materials.

A small number of large charities have recognised this and solved this at considerable risk and cost. Our mission is to help any charity who believes in these values achieve these goals without the high-level investment and risk of going it alone.

About the role

This is more than a full stack role. It is a software angle on the full project and business.

We expect everyone at RightMarket to deeply understand the product and the customer development issues. To then be able to hypothesise simple solutions and work with the team to test them. We are disrupting the way an entire sector solves their publicity needs so it takes constant innovation across the team.

Your role will be to turn some of these into software solutions. To bring a common-sense approach of how software delivery into the real world works. Yet with the vision in mind of how we are disrupting the sector.

You will be reporting to the CTO who dropped development many years ago so you will have huge autonomy on how we write quality code.

You will have a key seat at the table of influence of where and how we steer this young project to take the market.

You must have very strong .net skills. Basic knowledge of Azure and devops, Mongo and SQL and test-driven development practices would be beneficial.
You will get chance to hone your skills in many and varied technologies. The small team lacks a dedicated data analyst, yet we are data driven so some of this will fall to you.

Our cause must resonate with you as this is a diverse and challenging role with inherent chaos at times. However, the reward for extracting shape out of chaos is that you are early enough to the team to make a huge difference. The journey from our first dozen happy big brand charities to successfully making the product and our whole target market fit together has only just begun.
